Astrid Lindgren tells from her life , also Astrid Lindgren's biography (original title: Astrid Lindgrens Småland ) is a Swedish documentary by Catharina Stackelberg from 1990 about the Swedish children's author Astrid Lindgren . The documentary was shot in Småland and allows the author to speak for herself. This is how she tells about her childhood in Småland. Astrid Lindgren speaks herself in the German dubbed version as well.

action

Astrid Lindgren is in Småland and visits the places of her childhood. First Lindgren talks about her father's life, his childhood and how he came to the Näs farm, where Lindgren later grew up. Lindgren talks about her intensive experiences in nature. The trees, stones, streams and meadows were close to her, almost like human beings. She tells of the cattle and horse markets in Vimmerby that took place there every month. Lindgren incorporated the story of a horse dealer who turned a sick horse on to a farmer in the novel Rasmus, Pontus and the Sword Swallower.

Lindgren tells about her deceased grandfather, whom she saw lying in front of the courtyard in one of her first memories. Lindgren also reported about her grandmother, who forbade them to go down to the lake, which Astrid and her siblings did not adhere to. Astrid Lindgren's brother Gunnar later spent a few days on a small island in the lake. He dropped a message in a bottle, the text of which inspired Lindgren to write a message in a bottle from Pippi Longstocking . Lindgren also processed a ghost story of her grandmother in the book Rupp Rüpel: the cruelest ghost from Småland .

Lindgren also tells of the difficult life of her great-grandfather, who spent some time in prison and could not see his son grow up.

When Lindgren noticed a cross in the churchyard in Vimmerby that read, "Here are the little Phalen brothers, 1860", Lindgren knew she would write about these brothers and their deaths. It emerged The Brothers Lionheart .

Lindgren also shares how difficult it was to find a wild cow that they could use to film Michel Bringing the World Right. It was easy to find none until a cow was found that had been in the barn all winter. Lindgren also says that her father was just like Michel from Lönneberga . She has incorporated many of his stories into her books, such as a story of a house interrogation. The story when the Bäckhult farmer drove into town was also inspired by a story by her father.

Lindgren also reports on many other legends and personal stories from Småland.
