Kalle and the mysterious carousel (original title: Rasmus, Pontus och Toker ) is a children's film by Stig Olin based on the script by Astrid Lindgren .

action

Kalles sister Britta and her classmate Joachim are a couple. Britta finds an album in which he has listed his ex-girlfriends (Magareta, Yvonne, Ulla & Brit) along with a photo. She explains that she would find it terrible if her photo was stuck in Joachim's album.

In the afternoon Britta, Joachim, Kalle and Pontus go to the sword swallower Alfredo's show. Kalle and Pontus no longer have enough money to pay admission for both of them. So they ask Alfredo to let them in for half the price. Alfredo refuses unkindly. The two secretly sneak into the show and are discovered by Alfredo and thrown out.

A little later Alfredo receives a visit from Ernst, who has just been released from prison. Ernst tells Alfredo that he knows that he has something to do with the silver thefts reported in the newspaper. He worked with Alfredo and knows how he works. He also met the antique dealer Paul, who gives Alfredo tips on where to find something worth stealing. Paul told Ernst where he can find the largest silver collection in the country: from the father of Britta's friend Joachim, of all places.

When Britta and Joachim go to rehearsal for their band, one of his friends tries to kiss Britta. Britta pushes it away immediately, but Joachim believes that Britta is to blame. Britta and Joachim quarrel and split up. But Britta is afraid of ending up in the album too, because Joachim has a photo of her. Britta reports about it to her brother Kalle. He promises to take care of it and get the photo.

The next night Kalle and his friend Pontus want to break into Joachim's house and steal the photo. But exactly then Alfredo and Ernst want to steal the silver collection. Kalle and Pontus find the photo in Joachim's wallet and take it with them. As they leave the house they see Ernst and Alfredo trying to escape with the stolen property. Kalle and Pontus follow the criminals. However, they are discovered a short time later and locked up together with Kalle's dog, Witch. Ernst quickly realizes how important Witch is to Kalle. Therefore, he threatens to kill her if Kalle and Pontus tell the police something. Witch is to be returned to the boys on Thursday. Until then, they should report to Alfredo every day.

A little later, Kalle and Pontus find the stolen goods and exchange them for worthless items.

Meanwhile, Kalle's father, who is a police officer, learns about the break-in at Joachim's. He wants to try to solve the crime.

On Thursday morning, Kalle and Pontus ask about their dog, Witch. The criminals tell the boys about an abandoned house where witch is supposed to be. The criminals Kalle and Pontus are imprisoned there. The two boys escape and finally find a witch. They tell Kalle's father about the thieves. They want to offer their stolen goods to the antique dealer Paul, but discover that Kalle and Pontus have exchanged them.

The thieves make their way to Kalle and Pontus. These are now back in the room in which they were locked up. They say they will show them the stolen goods. They lead the criminals into a dark house where the stolen goods are. The house turns out to be the police station and the criminals are met by the police.

Kalle, Pontus, Britta and their parents go to the summer party. But Britta is sad. She misses Joachim. Joachim is also lovesick because of Britta. At the party, Kalle secretly slips Britta the photo of her. Britta thinks Joachim gave it to her. On the back it says: "She is the only one". Britta is deeply touched and asks whether what it says is true. Joachim is surprised that Britta didn't know that. The two get along and kiss. Kalle and Pontus watch them together with Hexe. They say that hopefully they never get like that in life.

background

The script for Kalle and the Mysterious Carousel was Astrid Lindgren's first independent script.

Astrid Lindgren initially only wrote the script. The book, called Rasmus, Pontus and the Sword Swallower ( Rasmus, Pontus och Toker ) appeared only after the film was released. On December 12, 1956, Kalle and the Mysterious Carousel premiered at the Astoria Cinema in Stockholm. It was shot in Mariefred and the AB Sandrew-Ateljéerna Studios in Stockholm.

Even if the title Kalle and the mysterious carousel suggests that Kalle is the well-known detective Kalle Blomquist , the original name of the character is Rasmus Persson. Although this is played by the same actor who also lives dangerously in Kalle Blomquist Rasmus Rasmusson or in Rasmus and the vagabond Rasmus Oskarsson embodies, but this is not the same character either. This is a completely independent film, in the style of the first Kalle Blomquist films.
