Goldi or Goldkind (original title: Gull-Pian ) is a children's film by Staffan Götestam based on the story of the same name by Astrid Lindgren .

Eva's father is traveling in the West Indies and Eva's mother is in the hospital because of consumption. That's why Eva lives with her aunt Ester. She has a doll called Via-Lisa or Goldi that she loves more than anything. She is the only one who donates consolation to Eva. Her cousin Berit is mean to Eva and annoys Eva wherever she can. Berit calls Goldi Dreckspuppe and keeps taking this Eva away. She also keeps saying that Eva's mother will soon die and Eva's father will drown in the sea. For her aunts Greta and Ester Eva is a "nasty little thing" that is just as bad as, in her opinion, Eva's mother was and is. They don't want to see that Berit is actually the one who bullies Eva over and over again. Her aunts only take care of Eva by necessity and want to get rid of her as soon as possible. They treat Eva like the last shit, let her do all the chores and put her down. On the other hand, they play with Berit and treat her like a little angel, even if she does the greatest nonsense. If Berit behaves badly, Eva is mostly blamed for it.
One day, during a thunderstorm with pouring rain, Eva is sent into town by her two aunts to fetch potato flour. It's a long way to get there and Eva arrives at Eriksson's drenched and shivering. Eriksson is appalled that her aunts let Eva walk so long in this weather just to get potato flour. He takes care of Eva, warms her up and gives her a piece of candy. Eva asks Eriksson what kind of disease consumption is and whether one can die from it. Eriksson says yes, but at the same time says that Eva's mother will not die from it. He added that her mother would soon be completely healthy and would bring Eva home. That makes Eva happy and gives her new courage. She walks home happily. She sees that Berrit has thrown her beloved doll Via-Lisa in the dirt. Furious, she slams the flour on the table for the aunts and Berit and tells them that she doesn't give a damn about them all. Then Eva happily hops around with her doll.

Goldi first aired on Swedish television on March 23, 1989. The film was produced back in 1988.
In Germany, the film was first broadcast on ZDF on October 22, 1989 within a series called Astrid Lindgren Told . In September 2010, the fairy tale and four other Astrid Lindgren films were published by Universum Film GmbH on a DVD under the title Astrid Lindgren - The Most Beautiful Stories . Another DVD was released in October 2013, this time with two other Astrid Lindgren film adaptations under the title Astrid Lindgren's Fairy Tales 2 . The German version of the film is 25 minutes long.
Differences to the book template
The film is based very closely on the book. There are a few minor differences, however. While Eva doesn't meet a single person in the book who helps or is nice to her, in the film Eva meets the businessman Eriksson. He talks to Eva in a friendly way, warms her up, gives her a piece of candy and gives her hope and courage again. He also says that her mother will get well again. In the book, the saleswoman Ms. Svanberg is surprised that Eva's aunts are chasing her out in the weather, but she does nothing to help her.
While the book doesn't even mention why Eva's mother is in the hospital, it becomes clear in the film that she suffers from consumption.
