Something alive for the lame Peter (original title: Nånting levande åt Lame-Kal ) is a children's film by Magnus Nanne based on the story of the same name by Astrid Lindgren .

action

Peter suffered from polio as a young child. Since then he has been paralyzed and spends most of the time in bed. His mother is poor and has to work a lot. So she doesn't have much time for Peter, who is often alone. Every year Peter wants nothing more than an animal for Christmas. But again and again he is disappointed. This time it should be different, think his friends Annastina and Lillstumpan. So it is fitting that the cat Schnorrchen is expecting young and that Peter could have one of its young. The two girls hope that Schnorrchens boys will be there before Christmas so that Peter receives his present on time. Very soon, Schnorrchen actually has its young. However, the girls have no idea where these are. Annastina and Lillstumpan find the kittens just in time. On Christmas Eve, these are just big enough for the girls to be able to give away one of them. When the girls come into Peter's room with the kitten, he is overjoyed. He doesn't feel alone anymore.

background

Something alive for lame Peter was first shown on Swedish television in 1988.

In Germany, the film was first broadcast on ZDF on November 12, 1989 within a series called Astrid Lindgren Told . In September 2010, the fairy tale and four other Astrid Lindgren films were published by Universum Film GmbH on a DVD under the title Astrid Lindgren - The Most Beautiful Stories . Another DVD was released in October 2013, this time with two more Astrid Lindgren film adaptations under the title Astrid Lindgren's Fairy Tales 1 .

Difference to the original book

The film sticks closely to the book. However, it is reported in the book that the mother patiently explains to the girls that they cannot have as many cats as they want. Therefore only Peter's future cat is kept in the book. Schnorrchen's other boys are buried by the girls. While Peter is sixteen years old in the original book, he is significantly younger in the film version.
