life and career

Göthe Grefbo took on supporting roles in the cinema from the late 1940s, working with prominent directors from his country such as Ingmar Bergman and Gustaf Molander . Many of his appearances, for example as a warehouse worker in Bergman's drama Die Zeit mit Monika , remained small in nature. In Germany he was mainly known for his impersonation of the incompetent police officer Klang in the Astrid Lindgren film adaptation of Pippi Longstocking (1969) alongside Inger Nilsson . Grefbo was also in front of the camera for the Lindgren literary adaptations Michel Bringing the World in Order (1973) and The Lionheart Brothers (1977), which were staged by director Olle Hellbom like Pippi Longstocking , but in less prominent roles. By 1989 he was seen in around 80 Swedish film and television productions.

Parallel to his film career, Grefbo worked for decades on Swedish theater stages. After his first engagement at the regional theater Norrköping - Linköping between 1947 and 1949, he was regularly seen in Stockholm in the following decades in the Royal Dramatic Theater and the Stockholm City Theater . In 1946 he married his stage colleague Anna-Greta "Age" Grefbo (1922–1991), with whom he had a daughter named Jana (* 1950). Göthe Grefbo died - only one month after the death of his wife - in May 1991 at the age of 69 in Stockholm.
