Ingeborg Steffensen
Ingeborg Steffensen (born June 4, 1888 in Copenhagen , † January 7, 1964 in Frederiksberg ) was a Danish opera singer (mezzo-soprano).
Life
Steffensen studied in Copenhagen with Sophie Keller and Borghild Bryhn-Langgaard and made her debut here in 1909 as a concert singer. In 1915 she made her debut at the Royal Theater as Ännchen in Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz . From 1919 to 1956 she was engaged at the Royal Theater.
Here she sang great mezzo-soprano roles such as Carmen in Georges Bizet's opera, Dalila in Camille Saint-Saëns ' Samson et Dalila , Ortrud in Richard Wagner's Lohengrin and Brangäne in his Tristan und Isolde as well as Frau Ingeborg in Peter Heises Drot og Marsk . In 1950 she sang the world premiere of Svend S. Schultz 'opera Høst .
Guest appearances have taken Steffensen to Stockholm, Berlin, Vienna and Prague, Oslo and Gothenburg, where she sang the title role in Arthur Honegger's opera Judith . In 1931 she received the title of Royal Danish Chamber Singer, in 1934 she was awarded the Ingenio et arti order . After her engagement at the Royal Opera, Steffensen continued to work as a concert and oratorio singer.
