Ingelheimer Haderbücher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ingelheimer Haderbücher are court books of the Ingelheimer Oberhof and the lower instances from the former Ingelheimer Grund from the period between 1387 and 1534, which are now kept in Ingelheim am Rhein . They give an insight into the everyday life of the people of the "Ingelheimer Reich" (also called Ingelheimer Grund), an area that emerged from the former imperial palace and comprised eight localities.

content

The Haderbücher record trials that were conducted before a late medieval lay court. They are “the earliest serially preserved text witnesses who recorded the conduct of a secular German law court in writing over a long period of time”. In 2011, the first volume of the haderbooks appeared as the result of an edition project that is to comprise a total of five volumes. The rag books preserved in Ingelheim and now edited comprise 19 books and six fragments.

Edition project

The edition of the Haderbücher is based at the Institute for Historical Regional Studies at the University of Mainz and is under the direction of Werner Marzi, employees are Stefan Grathoff and Regina Schäfer. The edition takes place in cooperation with the history department of the university. The edition is financed by the Ingelheimer Kulturbesitz Foundation, the Boehringer Ingelheim company and the City of Ingelheim. In addition to the edition volumes, the rag books are described in a scientific companion volume under national, legal and socio-historical aspects.

Online edition

The Haderbuch "Ober-Ingelheim 1518-1529" has been published on the Internet at www.haderbuecher.de since October 23, 2017. The digital edition of the volume "Groß-Winternheim 1490-1519" has also been activated since February 2019. In the meantime, work on the volume »Wackernheim 1472-1501« has progressed so far that this volume can be viewed online at the beginning of 2020. In a subsequent step, the first three volumes of the book series will also be integrated into the database in a revised form. »Haderbuecher.de« contains - as was already the case with the book edition - the transcription of the early New High German text and a translation into contemporary German. For the online edition, the register has been significantly expanded and provided with links to corresponding articles in digital historical dictionaries and encyclopedias. Compared to the book edition, what is new is that images of the historical source text are now also offered. The aim of digitization is to facilitate access to this extensive source, which is not easy to access in terms of content.
