Ingrid Kasten (born June 24, 1945 in Lübeck ) is a German German philologist and professor for older German literature and language at the Institute for German and Dutch Philology at the Free University of Berlin .

Life

Kasten studied philosophy, Romance languages ​​and German studies at the University of Hamburg . She received her doctorate in 1973 and was a research assistant at the University of Hamburg from 1973 to 1983. 1983 followed her habilitation in the subject German Philology with special consideration of the Romance literatures of the Middle Ages. In the same year she was appointed professor at the University of Hamburg. This was followed by substitute professorships in Heidelberg and Göttingen in 1986 and 1987. In 1987 she was appointed to the chair for older German literature and language at the Free University of Berlin .

From 1991 to 1997 she was a member of the board of the German Association of Germanists and between 1994 and 1997 she was also deputy chairwoman. She was Dean of the Department of German Studies at the Free University of Berlin from 1995 to 1997. Since 1996 she has been a member of the Center for Historical Anthropology; since 1997 also the graduate school "Body Staging". In 1999 she became a member of the Collaborative Research Center "Cultures of the Performative" and in 2000 she was elected a DFG reviewer.

Focus in research and teaching

Kasten conducts research in the field of medieval, vernacular literature on poetry, women's mysticism , novels and verse novellas. She researches the literary history of emotionality and is dedicated to gender research in medieval studies.
