Werner Oehlmann

Werner Oehlmann (born February 15, 1901 in Schöppenstedt near Braunschweig, † July 24, 1985 in Bitburg ) was a German music critic , music teacher and author .

Life

After graduating from high school, Oehlmann studied in Berlin with Rudolf Maria Breithaupt (piano) and Hermann Abert (musicology) as well as at the Weimar University of Music . He then worked from 1930 to 1932 as a game director and dramaturge in Bamberg .

During the National Socialist era , Oehlmann was a concert accompanist and music consultant in Berlin. In the years 1938 to 1940 he wrote articles in the synchronized Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung , from 1940 to 1944 also in the Nazi magazine Das Reich . After a trip to the so-called Generalgouvernement , he wrote an article in the spirit of the Nazi rulers in the magazine Das Reich in November 1941 under the title Transformed East : “German order has now taken possession of this area of ​​disorderly forces. [...] The Jews , concentrated everywhere in their own residential areas, are practically eliminated as a politically ethnic element. "

In 1945 Oehlmann became a teacher at the municipal music school in Braunschweig , and from 1947 he was an editor at NWDR Hamburg. From 1950 to 1966 he was music editor for the Berliner Tagesspiegel . He then retired.

As an author, Oehlmann has made a name for himself above all as the publisher of music guides - extensive reference works on specific musical areas.
