Ingrid Kurz

Ingrid Kurz (* 1944 ) is an Austrian conference and TV interpreter . She teaches as a professor at the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna .

Life

Ingrid Kurz completed a translation / interpreting and psychology degree at the University of Vienna. She wrote her dissertation on The Influence of Exercise and Concentration on Simultaneous Speaking and Listening . She has been working as a freelance conference interpreter since 1965. She had her first public job in the US presidential election in 1968. Since then she has been working regularly as a TV interpreter for live broadcasts on ORF . She completed her habilitation in 1992 (Venia docendi: Applied Interpreting Science and Interpreting Didactics) and has been teaching at the Institute for Translator and Interpreter Training and at the Institute for Psychology at the University of Vienna since 1976.

In 1969 she interpreted on the moon landing of the Apollo 11 space shuttle , which she nicknamed “Mrs. Apollo "or" moon woman "brought in. Since 1998 she has been an associate professor at the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna with a focus on conference and media interpreting, cognitive-psychological aspects of interpreting and the history of interpreting.

In one of her studies, she paid particular attention to the stress that interpreters experience in their daily work.

Others

Ingrid Kurz is a member of the Research Committee of the international interpreters' association AIIC and of the Austrian interpreters association Universitas. Furthermore, together with Eva Fürthauer, Elisabeth Schwarz and Birgit Strolz, she runs the company Conference Consulting Dolmetschdienste & Kongressberatung OG in Vienna.

She taught internationally and has been a visiting professor in countries such as Thailand and Poland.
