Ingrid Wettberg is the chairwoman of the Liberal Jewish Community in Hanover .

Career

Wettberg comes from Hanau and came to Hanover in the mid-1970s. There she worked as a lecturer at adult education centers and for Burda . In 1999 she was elected chairman of the Liberal Jewish Community in Hanover. At the same time she is chairwoman of the Liberales Judentum Foundation in Hanover.

During her term of office, the new building of her own synagogue with an attached community center was inaugurated in the Hanover district of Leinhausen in January 2009. The Hanover Jewish Library was opened in May 2012.

She is a member of the board of the Association for Christians and Jews in Lower Saxony .

Private

The Brothers Schönfeld Forum and the Brothers Schönfeld House in Maintal-Dörnigheim are named after Ingrid Wettberg's great cousins, Horst and Gerhard, who, like most of the family, were murdered in the Holocaust. The actress Mariah K. Friedrich is Wettberg's daughter-in-law.

Awards

For her diverse voluntary work in the Jewish community and in interreligious dialogue, she was awarded the Hanover city badge in June 2006 and the Federal Republic of Germany's Cross of Merit on ribbon in December 2012 .

Others

On November 28, 2013, during a panel discussion in the Haus der Region, an alleged right-wing extremist publicly cursed her with anti-Semitic abuse.
