The plaque for services to the state capital Hanover , also known as the city plaque for short , is an award for distinguished personalities of the city of Hanover . It was launched in 1959 by a decision of the city council . After being awarded honorary citizenship, the plaque is the highest distinction that the city of Hanover bestows.

The city plaque honors personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the city of Hanover in the fields of politics, culture and economy

"The well-being of the city and its citizens particularly promoted"

to have. The plaques are awarded in the middle and at the end of each election period of the city council. Elisabeth Hoffmeier , who was one of the most prominent local politicians of the Weimar Republic , was the first woman to be honored .

By 2014, 141 people had received this honor, and by June 2016 a total of 154 people.
