The Hannover Girls Choir is a vocal ensemble in which girls and young women between the ages of 14 and 20 perform musical works from the Renaissance to the present day. The choir has won a number of prizes, including at international competitions.

structure

The concert choir is part of a multi-level vocal and music education training at a choir and singing school, in which girls are introduced to vocal music and how to deal with their own voice in an age-specific manner and not only as training for later performances.

Basic vowel level

The first phase of this training forms a basic vowel level for girls aged seven and eight under the direction of Gabriele Schönwälder . Their didactic concept is based on the musical experience and behavior of children of this age. Accordingly, the playful use of the voice on the basis of folk and game songs is in the foreground, integrated into movement elements and supplemented by elementary listening training .

Prepayment

The second phase is a preliminary class for girls aged nine and over, who are taught basic singing techniques through choral vocal training. Under the direction of Swantje Bein, this second stage introduces two- and three-part songs and canons to the later choral work, listening and music teaching should teach correct intonation and simple sight-seeing, also combined with movement and body language.

Young choir

In the junior choir , the third phase, girls between the ages of eleven and thirteen work on choral literature of easy to medium difficulty, supported by continuous voice training. In addition to regular participation in concerts by the girls' choir, the young choir under the direction of Julia Wolf also makes its own appearances in church services, in retirement homes, at children's choir meetings, at the Lower Saxony Music Days, etc. and takes on tasks in performances of larger works in which a children's choir part is planned.

Concert choir

The transition to the concert choir is possible at around thirteen . His repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to works of the 21st century, with the development of contemporary choral works being a particular concern. The choir was first and second prize winner in national and international competitions and has been invited to concerts in many European countries as well as in the USA, Japan, China, Brazil, Chile, Russia, Israel and Turkey.

The choir has made radio recordings on German and European broadcasters and can be heard on 20 CD recordings. A number of former girls' choir singers now work in a wide variety of music professions and a number of them have become professional singers.

Choir direction

From 1952 to 1977 the choir was directed by Ludwig Rutt, from 1978 to 1999 together by Rutt and the conductor, singer and professor for elementary music education Gudrun Schröfel . In 1999 Gudrun Schröfel took over the sole direction of the girls' choir. After a transitional phase as artistic dual leadership from 2017-2018, Gudrun Schröfel handed over the choir direction to Andreas Felber in January 2019 and has been the honorary choir director of the girls' choir since then.
