Chem Widhya

Chem Widhya (born December 6, 1958 in Phnom Penh ) is a Cambodian diplomat .

Widhya is one of the sons of the former Cambodian Justice Minister Chem Snguon . He studied at the Institute for International Relations in Potsdam-Babelsberg and graduated magna cum laude . In the following years he was a close associate of Prime Minister Hun Sen . In 1993 he was accepted into the diplomatic service. From 1994 to 2003 he represented Cambodia in ASEAN and ARFSON , from 2004 to the United Nations in New York and since 2005 as ambassador to Canada . In 2007 he was transferred to Germany as ambassador . Widhya is married with three children and speaks French, English, German, Russian and Spanish.

In the meantime, he also held the post of Cambodian Foreign Minister from 1997.

As of February 19, 2014, Thai Chun is Cambodia's new ambassador to Germany.
