Inclination busole

An inclinatorium (also called inclination bussole , from Latin inclinatio inclination) is a previously common device for determining inclination (inclination of the field lines of the earth's magnetic field against the horizontal). The inclinatorium is the forerunner of the magnetic field balance used today.

Structure of an inclinatorium: A magnetic needle, which is suspended movably on a horizontal axis, shows the course of the magnetic field lines. The angle of inclination can be read off a degree scale.
