The Innocenti 950 Sport is an open two-seater passenger car, produced by the Italian manufacturer Innocenti between 1960 and 1969.
history
Innocenti was known for its tubular scaffolding system and the Lambretta roller . The founder Ferdinando Innocenti decided in 1960 to get involved in automobile construction. He licensed the Austin A40 and later the Mini , but he also wanted his own model: the 950 Sport.
Drive and landing gear came from the Austin-Healey Sprite ; the self-supporting body was designed by Tom Tjaarda at Ghia .
The 950 Sport was presented at the Salon International de l'Automobile in Turin in November 1960. The technology was conventional with a front engine and a rigid driven rear axle.
The car was well equipped and offered at a very competitive price. In contrast to the English roadsters of that time, the hood was lined for more comfort and better insulation. The engine had only 35 kW (48 hp), which was sufficient for a maximum speed of 140 km / h. From 1962 the engine developed 50 hp.
A hardtop was available from 1961.
Starting in 1963, there was an engine with 1098 cc and 43 kW (58 hp), and the model was henceforth Innocenti Spider S . At the same time, disc brakes were introduced at the front.
Production ended at the end of 1969 without a successor.
