Innovation incubator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Innovations-Incubator Lüneburg is a project to promote the economy in the former administrative district of Lüneburg . The business development project was started on the initiative of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the State of Lower Saxony . It has an investment volume of almost 100 million euros, of which the majority of 64 million euros come from the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 22 million euros from the state. The Innovations-Incubator Lüneburg is the winner of the joint location initiative of the federal government and industry, Germany Land of Ideas .

The focus was on creating and securing knowledge-intensive employment. Medium-sized and small companies in the region should be supported in their research and development potential. It was planned to implement around 50 innovation projects in 16 sub-measures at the university by 2015. Main topics:

  • Digital media
  • health
  • Sustainable energy

The OECD has certified in a short report that the incubator has reached its main objectives.

However, there was also criticism: “The business development agencies are concerned that the management of the incubator apparently does not see the involvement of the municipal levels as a key success factor for the success of the incubator.” At the end of 2011, a small inquiry was made in the Lower Saxony state parliament regarding the effectiveness of the Incubator placed. The state government replied at the beginning of 2012: "There are currently 187 cooperations in the major project, 67% of which (126 cooperation partners) are located in the convergence area, further cooperations exist with companies from the districts of Cuxhaven (3), Heidekreis (2) and Osterholz (1)."
