The Institut Culturel Franco-Allemand, or in German the Franco-German Cultural Institute , was founded on November 4, 1946 as a center for French studies by the military government of the French garrison. In 1954 the center moved to the Herzogsvilla Doblerstraße 25 on the Österberg , which was built in 1921 for Duke Philipp Albrecht (1893–1975). He was the son of the presumptive (intended) heir to the throne of the House of Württemberg and royal prince Albrecht Duke of Württemberg (1865-1939). From 1929 until its forced dissolution in 1939, the house belonged to the Zollern singers.

Effective range

In 1976 the center was renamed the German-French Cultural Institute of Tübingen and, as a binational structure, is based on an association of friends. V. with approx. 700 members. The Institute is firmly rooted in local cultural life and works in partnership with major cultural institutions of the city together and the whole year, concerned about the large cultural events (jazz and classical days, book festival ...) and especially in the festival of Francophone Films, the French Filmtage , a major event in Tübingen. It also supports relations with the twin city Aix-en-Provence. His activities are of course also aimed at the university: lectures, colloquia, seminars in a wide variety of areas (Romance studies, German studies, history, art history, philosophy, political science, medicine ...) are the fruit of this dynamic partnership, which is becoming more intense from year to year.

The institute also offers language courses from qualified native speakers in various fields, both for private individuals and for companies. It is also possible to take the following language diplomas:

  • DELF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française), level A1-B2
  • DALF (Diplôme Approfondi en Langue Française), level C1-C2
  • TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français)

Over 20,000 media carriers are available to visitors in the media library.
