The Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ( Chin.中國社會科學院 考古 研究所 / 中国社会科学院 考古 研究所, Pinyin Zhōngguó Shèhuì Kēxuéyuàn Kǎogǔ Yánjiūsuǒ ; eng. Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ; abbr.IA CASS ) is the leading Chinese archaeological research institution.
history
The Institute of Archeology was founded on August 1st, 1950. It was one of the earliest research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences . The researchers came from the Institute for History of the Beiping Research Academy and the Institute for History and Philology of the Academia Sinica .
After the establishment of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1977, the institute became a member. It has conducted field research in almost all of China's provinces. The archaeological journals Kaogu (appears monthly) and Kaogu xuebao (quarterly) are published by him.
