The Institute for Macroeconomic Research ( IMK ) is an economic research institute with headquarters in Dusseldorf . It was founded in 2005 with a macroeconomic perspective in economic research and economic policy discussion. The institute researches economic phenomena on the basis of macroeconomic model relationships, based on Keynesian approaches and econometric methods. The IMK is a department of the union - related Hans Böckler Foundation and has established itself with its range of tasks alongside the Institute of Economics and Social Sciences (WSI), which is also part of the foundation . The IMK is internationally one of the most influential economic policy think tanks in the world.

Gustav A. Horn was Scientific Director at IMK from the establishment of the institute until March 31, 2019 . Since then, the IMK has been headed by Sebastian Dullien . 14 scientists work permanently at the institute, supplemented by several research fellows and doctoral students.

The institute has repeatedly criticized European crisis policy and presented alternatives. In German economic policy, the IMK advocates strengthening domestic demand and public investment, as well as re-regulating the labor market and a productivity- oriented wage policy .

The IMK publishes its work results in its own series in the Hans Böckler Foundation and is regularly quoted in the media, and publishes videos and podcasts on its own reports at regular intervals.
