Institute of Nuclear Sciences "Vinča"

The Institute for Nuclear Sciences "Vinča" (Serbian: Institut za Nuklearne Nauke "Vinča" , Serbian - Cyrillic Институт за нуклеарне науке "Винча" ) is the largest scientific research institute in Serbia . It is located in the village of Vinča ( Grocka municipality ), about 14 km southeast of Belgrade . It was founded in 1948 as the Institute for Physics , renamed the Institute for the Structure of Matter in 1950 , and from 1953–1992 was called the Institute for Nuclear Sciences "Boris Kidrič" (named after the politician Boris Kidrič ).

The institute includes two research reactors , numerous laboratories, a library and its own infrastructure (bank, shops, etc.) for employees. The institute employs 408 scientists and around 350 other employees (as of March 2007).

Well-known former employees of the institute include Pavle Savić , Slobodan Ribnikar , Jordan Pop-Jordanov , Đorđe Jović and Ratko Janev .
