The Institute for Legal Policy at the University of Trier (IRP) is a research institute dedicated to dealing with all areas and issues that are important for legal policy . The aim is to provide academic support for current legal policy and to deal with new issues (also) from a legal policy perspective. In January 2000 the Institute for Legal Policy was founded with the participation of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate . The institute is run by the Institute for Legal Policy eV, a recognized non-profit organization to which the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and private individuals from academic and political public life belong. There is a cooperation agreement with the University of Trier.

The management of the institute is in the hands of Thomas Raab (executive director), professor in the law department of the University of Trier .

history

The Institute for Legal Policy was founded on November 29, 2000 under the direction of Gerhard Robbers and Bernd von Hoffmann († 2011). In December 2012 Thomas Raab joined the Institute for Legal Policy as a new board member. With the appointment of Gerhard Robbers as Minister of Justice for Rhineland-Palatinate, Thomas Raab took over the management in November 2014. Even when it was founded, it was planned that one of the institute's tasks would be to support the Foundation for Legal Policy in the implementation of the Bitburg Talks that were launched in 1972 . For this purpose, a cooperation agreement between the IRP and the Society for Legal Policy was concluded in 2001.

Events

The Society for Legal Policy has been organizing the Bitburger Talks on current and emerging legal policy issues since 1972 , since 2001 in cooperation with the Institute for Legal Policy. The institute supports the organizational and scientific preparation and follow-up of the discussions.

Several times a year the institute organizes colloquia on legal policy with lectures and discussions by academics and practitioners on questions of national and international legal policy. In addition, meetings under the title Legal Policy Symposium are held at irregular intervals . These serve as larger discussion events for further in-depth discussion of legal policy issues.

Publications

Together with the Society for Legal Policy, the institute publishes the yearbooks for the Bitburger Talks . The lectures given in the context of the legal policy colloquia are published in the institute's own series of publications entitled Legal Policy Forum . Finally, the institute maintains a series of publications entitled Legal Policy Symposium , in which, on the one hand, the contributions from the conferences organized by the Institute, and on the other hand, monographic treatises on legal policy issues appear.
