Institute for Theological Zoology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Institute for Theological Zoology is an affiliate institute founded in December 2009 at the Philosophical-Theological University of Münster . It is managed by Rainer Hagencord . The institute sees itself as interdisciplinary, ecumenical and interreligious.

Goals of the institute

In addition to the existing theological anthropologies, the institute would like to contribute to a scientifically founded theological appraisal of the animal in a newly created theological zoology . Courses are offered, among others at the Philosophical-Theological University of Münster , the theological faculty in Münster and cooperation with other theological faculties in Germany and Switzerland.

Through pedagogy and catechesis one would like to create a greater sensitivity for the subject of "preservation of creation" and in this context take a special look at animals. Teaching materials and work aids are to be created and published.

Furthermore, the institute is to offer retreats , workshops and excursions in which people in contact with nature, plants and animals find a “spirituality according to creation”. The institute plans to develop appropriate concepts and organize events with educational institutions, national parks , zoos and similar institutions.

Anton Rotzetter was part of the institute's management until his death in March 2016.
