Rainer Hagencord (* 1961 in Ahlen , Warendorf district ) is a Catholic priest and zoologist . Together with Anton Rotzetter until his death in 2016, he heads the Institute for Theological Zoology in Münster .

Life

Hagencord studied Catholic theology from 1980 to 1985 in Münster and Freiburg in Üechtland (Switzerland) and was ordained a priest in 1987. After four years of pastoral work, he studied biology and philosophy in Münster and graduated with the state examination. The main focus of study was behavioral biology .

From 1996 to 2000 he was a university pastor in Münster and during this time he established the interdisciplinary dialogue between theology and biology in the community. This is where the idea for his doctoral project arose with Norbert Sachser from the Institute for Neuro- and Behavioral Biology and Klaus Müller from the seminar for basic philosophical questions in theology with the title “The animal: a challenge for Christian anthropology. Theological and behavioral arguments for a change of perspective ”.

Hagencord was released in 2002 from the Bishop of Münster, Reinhard Lettmann , to work at the Institute for Neuro- and Behavioral Biology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. From 2006 to 2009 Hagencord was the spiritual director of the Cusanuswerk .

Anton Rotzetter and Rainer Hagencord founded the Institute for Theological Zoology in 2009. It offers the first degree with a combination of theology and science.
