Anton Rotzetter

Anton Rotzetter OFMCap (born January 3, 1939 in Basel ; † March 1, 2016 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was a Swiss Capuchin and author .

Life

Anton Rotzetter the schools came after the visit in Friborg , and Appenzell 1959, the religious order of the Capuchins in and studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Solothurn , Bonn and Tübingen . In Friborg he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD. In the 1970s he was committed to slum shelters and poverty reduction in Rio de Janeiro (1972) and Tanzania (1974).

From 1978 to 1988 he was founding rector of the Institute for Spirituality in Münster and from 1988 to 1998 president of the Franciscan Academy. From 1968 to 1993 he was theological assistant of the international Franciscan movement "Marienthal". Since 1998 he has been a board member of Central Switzerland Writers and until 1994 board member of " ACAT Switzerland ". For seven years he was speaker of the word on Sunday on Swiss television DRS and by the end of 2000 a regular speaker in Fulfilled time in 1992 participating in the four-part broadcast of at Austrian ORF 1 and Vatican Radio about Francis of Assisi . Together with Rainer Hagencord , he headed the Institute for Theological Zoology in Münster, which he co-founded in 2009 . He held teaching positions at the PTH Münster and in Friborg. Until his death he was president of AKUT-Schweiz (Action Church and Animals), where he worked tirelessly for a responsible treatment in the Christian sense of non-human fellow creatures. In his writings and lectures, he advocated a dignified treatment of animals, both in theology and in church life, and a consequent responsible consumption. Out of conviction he lived a vegetarian himself.

Rotzetter was a well-known expert on Franciscan and Biblical spirituality . He conducted scientific research on Francis of Assisi, has written over 70 books and was involved in numerous editorial and writing activities in various magazines.

Most recently he lived in the Capuchin monastery in Friborg in Switzerland.
