Andreas Müller OFM (born May 25, 1931 in Boll as Johannes Müller ; † February 3, 2020 in Fulda ) was a Franciscan and founder of the " Missionszentrale der Franziskaner " (MZF).
Life
Johannes Müller was born on May 25, 1931 in the hamlet of Ilgental, district of Boll (now part of the municipality of Sauldorf in the district of Sigmaringen ) and went to school in Boll, Sigmaringen and Riedlingen and was a member of the Bund New Germany . In 1953, after attending the Kreisgymnasium Riedlingen, he entered the Thuringian Province of the Franciscan Order, was given the name of the order Andreas and studied philosophy and theology in Sigmaringen and Fulda. He made his solemn profession there on April 21, 1957 . After being ordained a priest on April 5, 1959 by Auxiliary Bishop Adolf Bolte , he initially worked for the Franciscan Order as a pilgrimage chaplain , people's missionary and mission procurator.
In 1969 he and his fellow brothers founded the "Franciscan Mission Center" in Bad Godesberg . The commission of the Second Vatican Council was an important impetus for him to look after the poorest of the poor worldwide. He had great sympathy for the theology of liberation , which was also practiced by Franciscans in Latin America.
The mission center has cared for the poorest of the poor in over 60 countries since it was founded. Through the organization's mediation, several hundred million euros flowed into the poorest countries by 2008. He was u. a. Chairman of the "Working Group of Procurators of the Missionary Orders and Communities of the Federal Republic of Germany" and member of the board of the International Institute for Mission Research .
On May 6, 2002, Andreas Müller was bid farewell as head of the mission center with a party in the town hall of Bad Godesberg. After that he was the managing director of the international correspondence course for Franciscan Spirituality ( Comprehensive Course on the Franciscan Mission Charism - CCFMC) until 2010 . He has played a key role in the development and distribution of the correspondence course since 1982. Since 2010 he has been honorary president for life of the CCFMC and continued to volunteer at the CCFMC.
