Institute for World Religions

The Institute for World Religions (IWR) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) ( Chinese  中國社會科學院 世界 宗教 研究所  /  中国社会科学院 世界 宗教 研究所 , Pinyin Zhongguo shehui kexueyuan Shijie zongjiao yanjiusuo , English Institute of World Religions, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ) was founded in 1964. It is the only official Chinese national institute for the scientific study of religion in the People's Republic of China . The institute has eight majors: Buddhism , Christianity , Islam , Confucianism , Daoism and Chinese Folk Religion , Contemporary Religions, Religious Studies, Religious Culture and Art.

The institute also publishes two major journals: Shijie zongjiao yanjiu (Studies on World Religions) and Shijie zongjiao wenhua (World Religious Cultures). Ren Jiyu任继愈 was its director for a long time. Zhuo Xinping卓新平 is currently its director.
