Friedrich Ludwig von Kleist (* 1694 ; † November 22, 1757 outside Breslau ) was a royal Prussian major general , and from 1756 to 1757 owner of the Old Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 9 .

Friedrich Ludwig von Kleist was a son of Melchior Ludwig von Kleist († after 1724), a studied man and his second wife Ester Elisabeth von Borcke († 1766). He had three brothers and two sisters. Since he himself remained single, his inheritance went to the children of a sister who was married to Major Martin Friedrich von Wedell .

Life

Friedrich Ludwig von Kleist joined as a young man, first the White Füssiliergarde Frederick I at. From 1714 he was an ensign in the Graf Wartensleben No. 1 infantry regiment , where he was promoted to major until 1740. In 1743 he became a lieutenant colonel in the Regiment Hereditary Prince of Württemberg No. 46 .

During the Second Silesian War , Kleist led a grenadier battalion. After he was involved with the events off Prague with his battalion in 1744, he took part in the winter camps under Colonel Winterfeldt . In 1745 he fought in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg and then operated in Upper Silesia .

In 1747 Kleist was promoted to colonel and in 1750 took over the Kalnein Infantry Regiment No. 4 as commander .

In 1756 at the beginning of the Seven Years' War he was promoted to major general. In the same year he fought successfully in the Battle of Lobositz and then took over as chief of the Quadt No. 9 infantry regiment. In 1757 he took part in the Battle of Prague . In the Battle of Breslau , Friedrich Ludwig von Kleist was fatally wounded by a shot in the chest.

Frederick the Great was very satisfied with Kleist; in 1750 he made him official governor in Egeln in East Prussia . In 1753 he received the Pour le Mérite .

In addition, Friedrich Ludwig von Kleist had acquired the Heydnau estate near Krossen.
