Institute for Winter Sports

The Institute for Winter Sports (IfW) is an academic research and educational institution of the University of Applied Management in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . Both the organizational and the scientific management of the institute lies with the sports and economist and licensed trainer Dirk Heering , who also teaches as a lecturer at the University of Applied Management.

The offices are located directly in the Olympic ski stadium.

Emergence

A cooperation between the University of Applied Management and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen market has existed since 2010. In December 2010 , a cooperation agreement was signed with the sister university , the University of Health and Sport in Berlin and Ismaning near Munich. In November 2011 the contract was signed by the 1st mayor of the market, Thomas Schmidt and the vice-president of the university. In December 2011 the institute for winter sports started operations.

Structure and staff of the institute

The institute for winter sports is divided into two departments. The first subject area includes sports management and the second subject area training science. In terms of personnel, mainly scientists from both universities work at the Institute for Winter Sports. Basically, this collaboration is project-related.

Goal setting

The central task of the institute is academic education and training. Through the cooperation with the partner universities and the universities from the university network, as well as the German Ski Association , the Bavarian Ski Association and the Olympic training centers in Munich and Berlin, module content in the areas of sports management and training science with a focus on winter sports is developed for students.

It is possible to complete a degree in sports management or training science at one of the universities and to work with the Institute for Winter Sports in the form of scientific research projects. Scientific training at the institute is also possible. Certification programs can be used to acquire further training to become a sports teacher (FH) or sports manager (FH). The institute also advises sports organizations on strategic management and financing issues. Furthermore, it acts as a supportive force in training processes through training courses in winter sports as well as conditioning courses, performance diagnostics and sports medicine examinations.
