Institute for Lower Rhine Cultural History and Regional Development

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Institute for Lower Rhine Cultural History and Regional Development ( InKuR ) is an interdisciplinary institute for research into the cultural and regional history of the Lower Rhine at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

The InKuR was founded in 1998 as an institute of the then Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg with the intention of promoting research into the history and culture of the Lower Rhine and the interdisciplinary exchange on this. A special feature of the institute is the close cooperation with Dutch colleagues and the Niederrhein Akademie / Academie Nederrijn eV in Xanten. The results of the research are published in a separate series of publications. The institute also has its own library with over 6000 titles. The periodical Rhein-Maas: History, Language and Culture has been published by Jörg Engelbrecht, Simone Frank, Christian Krumm and Holger Schmenk since 2010 .

In 2005 the InKuR was converted from a central institute of the university to an institute of the faculty of humanities at the now merged University of Duisburg-Essen. Dieter Geuenich , who has been managing director since the institute was founded, was replaced in 2007 by Jörg Engelbrecht (died 2012).
