The Institut français d'opinion publique (IFOP) is a French opinion and market research institute founded in 1938 and headquartered in Paris .
history
Ifop is considered a pioneer and leading provider in the French public opinion polls and market research market. Jean Stoetzel, Professor of Social Psychology at the Sorbonne , founded the company on December 1, 1938. The first polls were published in the magazine Sondage (polls) in the summer of 1939 . After that, the publication of opinion polls was banned by the censors.
In September 1944, the first study of the post-war period took place with questions about the FFI and the role of the Resistance . In 1956, a computer (a coupled IBM 704 ) was used for the first time for factor analysis to count and process the measurement data. In 1973, in cooperation with RTL, half-hour traffic jam forecasts were made by interviewing vacation drivers. Ifop conducted an election day poll for the first time in local elections in 1983 .
Ifop also conducts tri-national surveys in France , Italy and Germany .
