Institution of Electrical Engineers

The Institution of Electrical Engineers , abbreviated IEE , was a professional organization for in engineering and technology sector employed persons in the UK . It was founded in 1871 and merged with the Institution of Incorporated Engineers in the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2006 . Discussions about the merger of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers began in 2004, followed by a vote among the members and, due to the support for the merger, it was completed on March 31, 2006.

Before 2006, the IEE was the largest European technical professional body with around 120,000 members.

They award the Faraday Medal (IEE) annually .
