Instrumental function

Instrumental function is a term used in general business administration that states that companies do not exist for their own sake, but are tools for achieving goals .

These goals can be supported by various interest groups, such as: company owners , employees , customers , trade unions , investors .

An instrumental function in the narrower sense is used when the companies under consideration are publicly owned. It then states that public companies are instruments in the hands of their owners in order to carry out public tasks in the areas of economic policy , infrastructure policy , regional planning policy , competition policy , social and fiscal policy .
