Intaglio (gem)

Intaglio ( Italian : carving, stone cut ) is the name for a gemstone with a deeply cut, pictorial representation. In contrast, there is the raised cut cameo .

The intaglio technique is commonly used on seal stamps and the stones of seal rings so that the imprint appears raised.
