Intaglio (burial mound)
Intaglio is a technical term for barrows with a pictorial representation embossed in the landscape.
Intaglio is an Italian term for relief, carving, engraving and sculpture. It comes from the arts and crafts, originally used for woodwork and precious stones. Applied to archeology , it refers to figurative burial mounds or hollows that are historically proven for various Indian cultures in North America .
One example is the American Indian burial mound in the shape of a large cat, located just south of Fort Atkinson in the US state of Wisconsin . It is the only one far and wide that has remained undamaged because it could be used as a tourist-economic attraction.
