Intel Server Management

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Intel Server Management is a system developed by Intel that is used to monitor system functions in servers . In order to record this, software is used that is available free of charge on the Internet.

software

The Intel Server Manager Software is a web application . The software can be operated under Windows as well as Linux . The software provides a complete overview of the system and records a wide variety of hardware and operating system data . Amongst other things:

  • Fan speed
  • Temperatures
  • Tensions
  • Ongoing services
  • Installed software

The software also offers a monitoring function that can be used to detect hardware errors . If this occurs, an SNMP trap is generated and a message is output. This allows the administrator to quickly diagnose hardware problems. The software also supports notification by email or SMS.

installation

The software can be installed in four different ways:

  1. Server installation primary agents: This type of installation installs the ISM server console and the ISM server agent. The agent collects the information and the console provides the web interface to enable access to the agent (in-band maintenance). The server is also configured for out-of-band maintenance. This is the ability to service the system even when the operating system is not running. This is done via a serial interface .
  2. Server installation minimal agents: As 1., but no server console is installed.
  3. Agentless server installation: The server is configured for out-of-band maintenance only
  4. Administrator console: Additional web console in which all servers that can be reached via the network can be maintained. This administrator console also offers functions such as shutting down and restarting the computer.

Additional hardware modules

In addition to the Intel Server Manager software, there are hardware modules that can be built into the computers, available in a Professional Edition and an Advanced Edition. These hardware modules offer extended functions, but are chargeable.
