history

With the acquisition of the license for the 1989/90 season of the then still second class Segunda División by the Club de Fútbol Inter de Tijuana, the city of Tijuana was represented for the first time in one of the two top football leagues in Mexico.

The team, also known as Furia Amarilla ( Spanish for yellow force ), based on their yellow jerseys, had a promising start and ended their first season in 1989/90 as leaders, but failed in the subsequent league against eventual champions León . Inter ended the next seasons in the table positions seven (1990/91), four (1991/92), six (1992/93) and eleven (1993/94).

When the new Primera División 'A' was introduced in 1994/95 , which replaced the Segunda División in its role as the second highest division in Mexican club football , Inter received a starting place in this league, which ended positively with a fifth place in the opening season. From now on it went downhill. While eleventh rank was still acceptable in the 1995/96 season, the fall followed in the separate round-trip tournaments of the Invierno and Verano, which were held for the first time in the 1996/97 season . The Torneo Invierno 1996 (under the name Tijuana Stars ) was finished in 16th place and the subsequent Torneo Verano 1997 (again as Inter de Tijuana) in 17th place. The negative results led to the descent of the "Furia Amarilla", who was trained by Joaquín Mendoza during her three years in Primera A.
