The interaction model according to King or the theory of goal attainment (English Theory of Goal Attainment ) is a care model developed by Imogene King in the 1960s . The underlying theory is one of the interaction models .

In her theory, King combined the concepts of interaction, perception, execution, self, role, growth and development in a shared time and shared place into a theory of goal achievement. Their theory is about the dual tone between nurse and patient, a relationship to which each participant brings their own idea of themselves, their role and their personal growth and development status with them. The nurse and the patient communicate first in an interplay and then in cooperation to achieve common goals. The relationship takes place in a space that is defined by the behavior of the two partners and takes place in a time that is moving forward. In this definition, action is a sequence of behaviors that include mental and physical measures. The response is also a sequence of behaviors that the action describes.

King states that the nurse's goal is to help the individual maintain their health so that they can function in their role. According to King, the field of work of the nurse is the promotion, maintenance and recovery of health, as well as care for the sick, injured and dying. The task of a professional nurse is therefore to interpret the information from the process and to plan, apply and evaluate the care.

The King's interaction model is successfully used in various care environments.
