The Inter Control GmbH - also: German Commodities Company - was "German goods decrease GmbH" in 1955 under the name (DWA) at the initiative of the Chamber of Foreign Trade of the GDR founded, which also led the service supervision. The DWA was supposed to guarantee that only first-class quality goods were exported and that the GDR only received first-class quality goods from abroad.
For this purpose, she had the task of “examining and controlling the quality of goods, taking and analyzing samples, checking the seal , quantity, weight, dispatchability and the means of transport.” In addition, others had to be complied with according to the sales contract Business partner conditions checked.
The GmbH was the only company in the GDR to have the license to carry out goods controls for well-known domestic and foreign clients (i.e. for insurance companies) and had mutual general agencies with international goods control companies. For its part, it could give control orders to other companies or institutes. The area of activity of Intercontrol also included assessments, damage assessments, test examinations, monitoring activities, depth expertise, survey services (e.g. cargo hold and cargo inspections).
Intercontrol had close relationships with partner companies in other socialist countries. It worked with corresponding companies in the capitalist countries on the basis of mutual benefit. The extensive business relationships allowed Intercontrol to take on control orders for all international trading venues. Certificates were issued for the control results and were given to the client. They could have the effect of triggering payment (for example in the case of letter of credit ).
