José Cancela , full name José Carlos Cancela Duran , (born June 25, 1976 in Santa Lucia ), called Pepe , is a Uruguayan football player.

Career

The 1.75 meter tall midfielder Cancela played for Peñarol in Montevideo from 1995 to 2000 . In 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999 the Aurinegros won the national championship. 16 games and one goal scored are then occupied in 2000 and 2001 for Cancela in the Primera División Mexico. The employer at the time was Puebla FC . 2001 to 2002 he was then included in the first division squad of the CD Cruz Azul . There he made 19 appearances and nine goals in the Primera División in the 2002 summer round. In the winter half (Invierno 2002) he played ten games for Gavilanes . This was followed by a stopover in Costa Rica at Deportivo Saprissa in 2003. In the same year he moved to the USA for New England Revolution . 83 games and six goals will be played for him up to and including 2006. In 2007 he joined the Colorado Rapids and played eleven games (one goal) in the MLS. This was followed by a position in his home country at Fénix in 2008 . He then returned to Costa Rica and played for Liberia from the 2008 Apertura . In three half-series at the club he can show 27 games (one goal). Herediano has also been listed as Cancela's employer since Apertura 2009 until Apertura 2011 . There he played 110 league games in the 2009/10 to 2011/12 seasons and scored 30 goals (2009/10 season: 25 games / 4 goals; 2010/11: 39/11; 2011/12: 46/15). There are also six games in the Liga Campeones (two goals) for him. Since 2012 Cancela has been active again for Deportivo Saprissa. At Saprissa he was used 38 times in the Primera División in 2012/13 and scored eight goals. In May 2013, however, he announced that he would not continue this engagement in the next season. At the end of May 2013 it was reported that he was returning to Herediano, where he signed a one-year contract. Since his return he came there to 33 league appearances in the Primera División and scored five goals. He also played in four games in the Liga Campeones (no goal). In July 2014 he moved to Belén Siglo XXI within Costa Rica's Primera División . There he scored four league goals in a total of twelve league appearances. Since the beginning of 2015 he has continued his career at Pérez Zeledón and has so far (as of March 2, 2017) 35 appearances (four goals) in the league.
