The International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA, International Association of Astronomical Artists ) is a non-profit organization whose members about projects Astronomical Art (Astronomical Art) organize and attend, promotes the formation of astronomical art and international associations of artists, whose works are based on the exploration of the universe . The main part of the activities is the organization of workshops .

The IAAA was founded in 1982 and registered as a society for astronomical arts in 1986. Since then it has grown to over 120 members from more than 20 countries. The organization serves its members as a network and source of supply. While the first artists of this kind ( Lucian Rudaux and Chesley Bonestell in the 1930s and 40s ) were still realists , many of today's artists are influenced by styles such as impressionism , expressionism, and surrealism , but the majority, unlike science fiction, are cartoonists , trained in astronomy , physics or mathematics and does not just orientate herself on her imagination in her work.

The works can be shaped by present as well as past or future celestial phenomena and represent them from a point of view that usually no telescope or modern technology could represent. The attempt is made to create impressive but credible works of art, which are made in acrylic or oil paints , with crayons or ink or with digital technology .

Since 2000, the IAAA has presented the Lucien Rudaux Memorial Award annually in memory of the space art artist Lucien Rudaux.
