International Commission on Biological Effects of Noise

The International Commission on Biological Effects of Noise (ICBEN) is a scientific organization for noise effects research and environmental epidemiology of noise that has existed since 1973 .

ICBEN is a non-profit organization with no legal personality and no official place of business . Membership is free and all activities within the organization are carried out on a voluntary basis. The board consists of the president, the co-president, and a secretary, who are each elected by the members for a three-year term of office.

The main activity of ICBEN develops in the congresses that take place every three years and are attended by between 200 and 300 scientists, researchers and members of environmental authorities. The various working groups of the ICBEN (Noise-induced hearing Loss, Noise and communication, Non-auditory effects of noise, Influence of noise on performance and behavior, Effects of noise on sleep, Community response to noise, Noise and animals, Interactions with other agents and contextual factors, policy and economics) on current topics and research results. The proceedings of the past congresses are freely available on the ICBEN homepage. The last ICBEN congress took place in Zurich in 2017.
