International Eastercup Berlin-Moabit

The International Eastercup in Berlin-Moabit is an international youth, adult and wheelchair basketball tournament . It is one of the three largest basketball tournaments in Germany and has been held annually over Easter since 2013. It consists not only of basketball games, but above all of many social projects that make up the character of the tournament. These projects include the empowerment of girls and young women, the promotion of young people in their personal development and the inclusion of people with disabilities.

Traditionally, the Easter Cup takes place over Easter from Maundy Thursday to Easter Monday. The tournament is attended by over 1000 young people from all over the world every year and is held in age groups from U10 to men and women. The organizer is the Berlin basketball sports club BC Lions Moabit 21 . WSG Königs Wusterhausen has been one of the partners since 2020. In addition to the competitions, entertainment is also offered, such as the All-Star Saturday Night Event .

Since 2015 there has also been a wheelchair basketball competition, which is one of the major international wheelchair basketball tournaments.

In 2017, for the first time, there was competition only for refugee teams with four teams from Berlin, in 2018 a total of 30 teams took part.

In 2019, a Masters tournament was held for the first time, in which the minimum age of the individual players is 45 years (45+).

At the beginning of 2019 it was announced that the International Eastercup Berlin Moabit was chosen as the FIBA ​​U14 tournament of the year 2018.

Competitions

The athletes play in the following competitions:

U10 boys and girls, U11 boys and girls, U12 boys and girls, U13 girls, U13 boys, U14 girls (certified by FIBA ), U14 boys (certified by FIBA), U15 boys, U16 girls, U18 girls, U18 boys , U20 girls, U20 boys, U22 boys, U22 girls, men, women, Masters 45+, University, wheelchair basketball, refugees, FIBA ​​3x3 mix and 3vs3 wheelchair basketball.

The U13 and U14 division has been supported by FIBA ​​since 2017. This is also the case in 2020. There is also a new competition called 3x3 Moabit , which is also certified by FIBA.

Projects

The International Eastercup is involved in numerous projects that are realized during the Easter days. These include, among other things, declarations against racism, such as “No Chances for Racism” or “Refugees Welcome”.

The project "More courage to self", supported by the German Children's Fund (DKHW), has been designed to support young girls in their social role since 2018. This project will continue even after the two-year funding period, which is why teams of girls in particular are invited. This tournament is organized as a project "By children - for children" and aims to enable children and young people to contribute creatively to the organization and implementation of the event, thereby promoting a sense of responsibility, independence and communication skills. The focus here is primarily on children and young people from Berlin-Moabit. Moabit children and adolescents have diverse cultural backgrounds and, in addition to their everyday school life, should have the opportunity to shape their future through sport.

The children's project received awards such as the European “Blue Bear” award and fourth place in the German “Golden Brat” youth award.
