International Federation of Cheerleading

The International Federation of Cheerleading (IFC) is an association of the sport of cheerleading based in Tokyo , Japan . The official, IOC-confirmed, world association in the sport of cheerleading is the International Cheer Union (ICU) based in Memphis, Tennessee, USA

history

Although cheerleading is a typical American sport , it is practiced in over 50 countries around the world. The IFC was founded in 1998 in order to bundle the worldwide activities outside the USA with its predominantly commercial organizations . As of January 2008, 43 national cheerleading associations are affiliated with the IFC.

tasks

The association strives not only to make cheerleading better known outside of America, but to ensure that cheerleading is recognized internationally as a sport. In the medium term, the aim is to ensure that cheerleading becomes an Olympic sport.

In addition to other international measures, the IFC especially organizes the cheerleading world championships.

successes

In addition to the success of having established a joint world association at all, the first visible successes were the World Championships in 2001 in Japan , as well as in Great Britain in 2003 and again in Japan in 2005.

The 4th IFC World Championship was awarded to Finland for 2007 and took place in Helsinki .

In 2009 the 5th World Cup took place in Bremen , Germany .

The 6th World Championship was held in 2011 in Hong Kong (SAR China).

The 7th World Championship took place in November 2013 in Bangkok (Thailand).

Others

Setsuo Nakamura is president of the IFC. He is supported by his vice-president Liudmila Zueva ( Russia ) and the vice-president Robert Huber ( Germany ), president of the AFVD .
