The International Federation of Poker (IFP) is the umbrella organization for all national poker associations worldwide. The IFP was founded on April 29, 2009 by seven founding countries in Lausanne , Switzerland , where the association is also based. The IFP currently has observer status in the International Mind Sports Association and provisional member status in the SportAccord .

founding

The IFP was founded in Lausanne on April 29, 2009 by the national associations from Brazil, Denmark, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Russia and the Ukraine. The British Anthony Holden was elected as the first president .

organization

The IFP Executive Board consists of seven elected people. President Patrick Nally chairs this board, the other members are Pedro Trengrouse (Brazil), Jes Bondo (Denmark), Gary Bowman (Ukraine), Antoine Dorin (France), Dmitry Lesnoy (Russia) and Martijn Paulen (Netherlands).

Member associations

Currently 55 member associations worldwide are organized in the IFP. The Deutsche Poker Sportbund joined the IFP in 2009 as one of the first national associations (at that time still under the name of the German Federation of Poker).

aims

The IFP is working on the recognition of poker as a mind sport and game of skill . In the course of this, a close collaboration with Harvard University has been established. In addition, the IFP has developed the independent variant Match Poker .

Events

The first IFP Nations Cup was held in November 2011. At this event Germany was able to win the title ahead of Brazil and France. The first European Nations Cup was held in Cyprus in April 2013. Among other things, this was intended as a test run for a new edition of the IFP Nations Cup in the new version of Match Poker. Ireland prevailed among 14 participating nations as the winner. Only a few months later, the Asian Nations Cup took place in Sanya, China in October 2013. Of the eight participating nations, the host China won the title.
