The Deutsche Poker Sportbund eV , or DPSB for short , is the umbrella organization for poker clubs and poker players in Germany . The DPSB currently (October 2013) has around 60 member clubs, which together have around 2000 individual players. The DPSB was founded on August 1st, 2009 in Regensburg (still under the name German Federation of Poker ). On November 13, 2011, the association was renamed Deutscher Poker Sportbund. He is a member of the International Federation of Poker.
Foundation and development
The reason for founding the DPSB was the desire to create a central German representative for the roughly 2 million poker players nationwide. By joining the DPSB to the International Federation of Poker on October 13, 2009, a first important step in terms of political recognition was achieved very quickly. The president and first board member of the DPSB is the mathematician Stephan Kalhamer . The other board members are Juergen Bachmann , Mike König, Jan Heitmann and Paul Kalisch.
Members
The German Poker Sports Association represents both individual players and clubs. The main focus is not on professional poker players, but on poker as a popular sport. All member associations in the DPSB are pure non-profit associations.
aims
The DPSB has proven to be under the statutes of the promotion of poker in Germany as well as the recognition of thinking sport prescribed (Mind Sports). He holds nationwide poker championships on a purely competitive basis. In addition, the interests of poker players throughout Germany are to be represented externally. The association provides assistance in founding the establishment of poker clubs that want to promote sport as an intellectual test of strength.
activities
Since 2010, the DPSB has been represented once a year at the world's largest youth fair, YOU , where it presents poker as a brain teaser for all ages. Object lessons are offered, educational work is carried out and, in parallel, a champion is chosen at the YOU Poker Open every year.
Championships
The DPSB has established a nationwide team league for poker clubs. There, teams of four fight each other in heads-up duels according to a specially prescribed mode. This team league is 100% athletically motivated and waives any stakes or entry fees. After a preseason, the qualified clubs play the German championship title once a year in the playoffs.
