Stephan M. Kalhamer (born October 3, 1976 in Regensburg ) is a German poker player and trainer.

Personal

Kalhamer grew up in Regensburg, attended the Albrecht-Altdorfer-Gymnasium there and graduated from high school in 1996. He served his military service in the high mountain range in Berchtesgaden. He then successfully studied mathematics in Regensburg and Boston (Brandeis, Harvard, MIT) . He lives with his wife and two daughters in his hometown of Regensburg.

Career

He learned all the card games common in Bavaria (e.g. Schafkopf ) at an early age . Even poker in the variant Five Card Draw played there already a role. During his stay in the United States , he came into contact with the currently most popular poker variant, Texas Hold'em .

After completing his studies, he wrote Texas Hold'em Poker: From beginner to tournament-ready poker strategist, the first German-language poker book. This is still regarded as a standard work today. He also works as a translator of poker literature and leads multi-level seminars on the subject of poker throughout the German-speaking region. His focus is on a more mathematical approach to poker, training in probability theory and other rational elements of the game.

Since 2009, Kalhamer has also been serving as honorary president of the German Poker Sports Association . This is committed to the recognition of poker as a mind sport . Kalhamer was also the initiator and trainer of the 2011 world championship team, which triumphed at the IFP Nations Cup for Germany with Sandra Naujoks , Sebastian Ruthenberg , Tobias Reinkemeier , Moritz Kranich , Konstantin Bücherl , Hans Martin Vogl and Tim Reese.

In December 2013, Kalhamer won the APAT European Championship title for Germany at the Amateur European Championship in Prague as a player together with Matthias Weigert , Alex Mühlbauer and Juergen Bachmann .

Publications

  • His first book, Texas Hold'em Poker: From Beginners to Tournament-Ready Poker Strategists (Regensburg, 2006) was the first purely German work in the field of poker to be published. It has now also been translated into several languages ​​(including Polish, Russian, Italian and French).
  • In 2007 Kalhamer published the English-language act to win in Texas Hold'em Poker together with Chad Brown , which is based on his first work.
  • In December 2007 Kalhamer published the book Poker Matrix - Dimensions of Success (Regensburg, 2007) together with Katja Thater , Michael Keiner , Sebastian Ruthenberg and Thomas Bihl .
  • In April 2012 he and Pius Heinz wrote the title My hands on the way to becoming a poker world champion: Becoming a poker millionaire overnight (Regensburg, 2012). It describes and analyzes all of the hands in the final table of the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event .
