The International Journal of Public Health is a scientific journal that has been published by Birkhäuser Verlag in Basel since 2007 (today Springer Verlag). This English-language title means something like international magazine for population health in German.
History of publication
The magazine has the following predecessors:
From 1900 to 1920 the Swiss Society for School Health Care published the yearbook of the Swiss Society for School Health Care at Fretz Verlag in Zurich .
The society changed its name to Swiss Society for Health Care and published the Swiss Journal for Health Care and Archives for Social Welfare from 1921 to 1928 in Gutzwiller Verlag in Zurich .
The magazine changed its name and was published by Gutzwiller Verlag in Zurich from 1929 to 1933 as the Swiss magazine for hygiene and archive for welfare .
From 1934 to December 1955, the magazine was published by Orell Füssli Verlag in Zurich under the name Gesundheit und Wohlfahrt .
The society changed its name to Swiss Society for Social and Preventive Medicine and, together with the Swiss National Committee for Mental Health and with the Study Group for Health Protection in Industry and Commerce , from 1956 to 1973 gave the journal for preventive medicine: official organ of the Swiss Society for Social and Preventive Medicine .
From 1974 to 2006, the Swiss Society of Social and Preventive Medicine published in Birkhauser Verlag the journal Social and Preventive Medicine ( Social and Preventive Medicine ). It has been published by Springer Verlag (publisher) since 2007. The journal is owned by the Swiss School of Public Health SSPH +, which was founded in 2005. The magazine that was once in 3 languages is now only available in English. In the first few years the editor was supervised by Springer Basel (as the successor to Birkhäuser); IJPH has been supported by Springer New York since 2014. The impact factor of IJPH has risen since 2008 from 0.61 to 2.70 (2014).
