The International Open Source Network ( IOSN ) is a joint project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Asia Pacific Development Information Program (APDIP), each of which is a subdivision of the United Nations . It is also supported by the International Center for Development Research (IDRC) in Canada .

The IOSN is committed to the information and dissemination of free software , especially in developing countries and the Asian region. Since many poorer countries in the world would like to forego license costs for proprietary software when setting up a computer infrastructure, the IOSN advises them on the use of free software such as GNU / Linux , Apache or OpenOffice.org, for example . In addition, the IOSN organizes z. B. also Linux installation parties and publishes numerous instructions for the use of free software under the Creative Commons license.
