The International Trail Running Association (international landscape running association ) is an international sports association that is dedicated to the worldwide promotion and development of landscape running . It was founded in 2013.

Objectives

The tasks of the ITRA are:

  • Promotion for and further development of the landscape run
  • Networking of trail running associations with national and international associations
  • Promote ethical principles
  • Championships and competitions on a national, continental and global level
  • Security for participants and organizational quality
  • Definition of landscape runs

history

The first international trail running conference was held on September 3, 2012 in Courmayeur (Italy) with more than 150 delegates (running organizers, manufacturers, journalists, association officials, trainers and top athletes) from 18 nations worldwide. The results of the work enabled the establishment of a worldwide association, and in July 2013 the International Trail-Running Association (ITRA) was founded.

The first general assembly was held on March 3, 2015 in Paris. The ITRA aimed to become the international point of contact for trail running and hoped that the World Athletics Federation (IAAF) would recognize landscape running as an independent discipline and the ITRA as a lobby group. The IAAF adopted trail running as a discipline at its 2015 congress in Beijing.

Events

ITRA has been involved in the organization of the IAU Trail World Championships since 2016 .
